Q3 SDEC Meeting Recap: Communication, Transparency & the Work Ahead

A detailed recap of the Texas Democratic Party’s Q3 State Democratic Executive Committee meeting in Grapevine, including party business, committee work, leadership reports, voter engagement, resolutions, and organizational updates.

Dear Precinct Chairs, Delegates, Community Leaders, and Friends,

I want to share an update from the Texas Democratic Party’s Q3 State Democratic Executive Committee (SDEC) Meeting, held Saturday, September 19, 2026, in Grapevine, Texas.

Congressional District 29 was represented by SDEC Committeeman Brandon K. Taylor and SDEC Committeewoman Courtney Richard. This was the first in-person SDEC meeting of the 2026–2028 term and provided an opportunity for members from across Texas to conduct party business, hear reports from party leadership, carry out committee work, and receive organizational updates.

OPENING AND PARTY BUSINESS

The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and an invocation, followed by recognition of county chairs, elected officials, candidates, and party leadership. Roll call was then conducted.

The Secretary and Nominations Committee provided reports concerning SDEC membership changes, resignations, county chair vacancies, and appointments. David Wilson was identified as the replacement for the Congressional District 13 vacancy.

The Chair also presented an appointment for Vice Chair for Labor Relations following consultation with the Texas AFL-CIO.

MY COMMITTEE WORK: NOMINATIONS AND CONVENTIONS

In addition to representing CD 29 on the full SDEC, I currently serve on both the Nominations Committee and Conventions Committee.

During both committee meetings, the respective chairs provided opening remarks and updates, members addressed new business, and committee officer elections were conducted for Second Vice Chair and Secretary. Each committee also concluded with announcements and updates regarding its work.

The Nominations Committee subsequently presented its report to the full SDEC, including the results concerning the CD 13 vacancy.

Serving on these two committees gives me an opportunity to participate directly in the organizational work of the SDEC while helping ensure that Congressional District 29 continues to have representation in the committee process.

CHAIR’S REPORT

During the Chair’s Report, emphasis was placed on strengthening local party infrastructure through the recruitment of county chairs and precinct chairs and on building organizations capable of remaining active beyond a single election cycle.

The report also addressed several areas of public policy and legislative advocacy, including public education, health care, natural resources, and criminal justice.

Texas Democratic Party staff members also introduced themselves and provided members with information about their respective responsibilities.

VICE CHAIR’S REPORT

The Vice Chair welcomed new and returning SDEC members and discussed engagement with local parties as well as national state-party leadership.

Additional discussion focused on mentorship, developing future leaders, and creating opportunities for younger Texans to participate in public service.

FUNDRAISING AND TREASURER’S REPORT

Members received updates regarding fundraising and the Party’s financial position.

SDEC members were encouraged to participate in sustaining-donor efforts and other fundraising activities. The Fundraising Committee also offered assistance to members with donor calls, making fundraising requests, and organizing events.

The Treasurer reported $1,793,746.94 in cash on hand at the time of the meeting.

VOTER ENGAGEMENT

The Vice Chair for Voter Engagement provided an update focused on voter registration and volunteer engagement ahead of the November 2026 general election.

At the time of the September 19 meeting, members were told there were 16 days remaining until the voter-registration deadline and 45 days until Election Day.

SDEC members were encouraged to share voter-registration information within their congressional districts and counties and to continue recruiting volunteers.

RESOLUTIONS COMMITTEE

The SDEC also received a report from the Resolutions Committee.

Two memorial resolutions were presented, including a resolution honoring former SDEC member Mike Rawlins, and a moment of silence was observed.

Members were also informed about a new process for submitting resolutions. Under the process described during the meeting, individuals who are not SDEC members may submit resolutions with sponsorship from an SDEC member, providing another avenue for issues originating in local communities to be brought before the party for consideration.

ORGANIZING, ADVOCACY AND PARTY OPERATIONS

The meeting included additional committee and organizational reports, including an update from the Organizing & Advocacy Committee.

The Executive Director also provided an overview of party staff and operations, with particular attention to the November election and the work underway across Texas.

EXECUTIVE SESSION

At a certain point in the meeting, the SDEC entered executive session to address matters designated for closed discussion.

Executive session is a confidential portion of the meeting in which attendance and disclosure are restricted. For that reason, this recap does not include the substance of those discussions.

Any information from executive session that is subsequently authorized for public disclosure can be shared separately. Matters that remain confidential will continue to be treated accordingly.

LOOKING AHEAD

The Q3 meeting provided an opportunity to conduct the organizational business of the SDEC, hear directly from party leadership, carry out committee responsibilities, and prepare for the work ahead.

I was proud to represent Congressional District 29 alongside Committeewoman Courtney Richard and to participate in the work of both the Nominations and Conventions Committees.

One of my commitments as your SDEC Committeeman is communication and transparency. I believe the people I represent should know what is happening at the state level, what work their representatives are doing, and how decisions and discussions within the SDEC connect back to our communities.

I will continue providing updates following SDEC meetings and throughout the term so that our precinct chairs, delegates, community leaders, and residents throughout CD 29 can remain informed and engaged.

Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to serve Congressional District 29.

Stronger Together.
